Castelo Branco - 18 km/22 min - Castelo Branco is fun to visit for several reasons. For one, you will find all kinds of shops for whatever you need and, on a rainy day, you can go shopping in the indoor shopping centre Forum. Castelo Branco also has a beautiful historic centre where there is plenty to see. There are remains of an old castle dating back to the early 1200s, churches, cathedrals, squares and much more.

Idanha-a-Nova - 16 km/22 min. - Idanha-a-Nova is a village with a friendly atmosphere. You can take a lovely walk near the old castle. You drive via this place to Sophie's favorite swimming and SUP spot: Praia Fluvial da Albufeira Marechal Carmona - 27km/45 min. from our Fair Life Ranch.

Monsanto - 42 km/48 min. - Monsanto is a town in the Portuguese municipality of Idanha-a-Nova. Monsanto is located on a slope of the steep mountain Monsanto (Mons Sanctus). The historic village is built of granite and rises suddenly from the valley. The peak of this mountain has a height of 758 metres.

Idanha-a-Velha - 37 km /50 min. - In this village there are many traces of the ancient Roman city of Civitas Igaeditanorum among the modest houses. A temple, some houses with patios and even a large public thermal bath structure.

Serra da Estrela Nature Park - 75,5 km/70 min. - The Serra da Estrela is a region with beautiful landscapes, impressive steep slopes and a place where you can enjoy the peace and quiet of the mountains. The highest spot, the “Torre”, is 1993 meters high. Estrela Mountain is a fundamental testimony of the last glaciation, which occurred about 30,000 years ago. It presents a high geodiversity and rocks aged up to around 600 million years. These facts were recognized by UNESCO, gaving it the geopark status, the so-called Estrela Geopark.

Reserva Natural da Serra da Malcata - 65,6 km/80 min. -Extensive areas of Mediterranean scrub that are home to a diverse fauna. Until recently, the Iberian lynx was also noticed, one of the most endangered mammals on the European continent. The Iberian lynx is part of a Portuguese-Spanish nature conservation project aimed at bringing back the species in larger numbers. The presence of countless reptiles and amphibians, an extensive parade of songbirds and various birds of prey, including the griffon vulture, the black vulture and the black stork, make a visit definitely worthwhile.

Parque Natural del Tajo Internacional - 144 km/100 min. - The border section of the Tagus International, as well as the valleys and adjacent areas, is one of the most unpopulated and least visited areas of Portugal. The valleys of the rivers Tagus and Erges have a wild character. The geological substrate is mainly slate and supports an interesting range of plants.
The Tagus International Natural Park, with its 26,490.43 hectares, is an extremely important area for the conservation of various bird species that nest on the steep banks of rivers and surrounding areas. The main species are the imperial eagle, the golden eagle, the Bonelli's eagle, the black vulture, the Egyptian vulture, the black vulture stork (symbol of the park), the black chasco and the black kite. The watercourses are home to populations of several species of endangered and endemic fish from the Iberian Peninsula. -
Coimbra - 149 km/100 min. - For centuries, Coimbra has been the intellectual centre of Portugal: the City of Students, of black cloaks, of Coimbra Fado, of academic bohemia. And for many centuries it has had one of the most valuable historical legacies we have. After all, the Romans fell in love with this place they called Aeminium, a crossing point between Olissipo and Bracara Augusta.
