Groundwork

Groundwork is a big concept. The great thing about groundwork is that you can work with any horse, young or old. Free in the arena, on a halter, on he lunge, it's all possible. There are many different forms for horses at all levels. Groundwork is training in the arena, but it is also there when you take your horse out of the pasture or during daily care.

An advantage of groundwork is that you can see your entire horse and the horse sees you. This allows you to see your horse's body language and he sees yours. You can also see how the horse moves and where you can help him. You also build a bond with your horse that you can take with you when working under the saddle.

I would like to show you the basics of groundwork and that there are many more things to do with a horse besides riding

Small impression

“I have always loved horses and had been with some but never with anyone who taught me so well about them. I met Ilona and Sophie a few months ago. Since then, Ilona has been teaching me a lot about horses. And these are not boring explanations, they are explanations that lead you to learn more about the world of horses. We often stay with the horses and pet them, in those moments Ilona also teaches me a lot about them, and at first it seemed a little scary to have such big horses by my side and not know what they are going to do, but with these moments of petting I started to gain trust with them, and I stopped feeling that fear, and Ilona helped me a lot with this as she gave me the trust I had in them, explaining their attitudes to me, and much more. In addition to these moments of affection, we also do some exercises with the horses. Ilona is a great teacher, when we are doing the exercises she shows me how to do them and helps me when I can't do them, but she is not someone who is always trying to correct me, She tries to make me realize what I'm doing wrong, and then when I realize I'm doing something wrong, or when I don't understand how to do it, she's there to help and calmly demonstrate again, and explain to me what I was doing right or wrong. Besides the fact that I love the way she works with the horses, Ilona is calm and respects them. I think it was wonderful that I met her. And since I met her I've learned a lot..”
